Indiana Counties Apply for More Grants from State’s Best Casinos
Counties in
Indiana are currently gearing up to apply for funds derived from
revenues from the best casinos in the state. Revenue from the
state’s best casinos, which are located in the city of
Lawrenceburg, is supposed to be allocated to the state’s
counties for economic development projects.
Ten million
dollars of revenue from the best casinos in Indiana will be made
available to nine Southern Illinois counties: Union, Fayette,
Franklin, Jackson, Monroe, Decatur, Jennings, Jefferson and Ripley. The city of Lawrenceburg, which is located in Dearborn County, was ordered last year by the Indiana General Assembly to share its gambling wealth with other counties. More than $120 million in casino revenue has been distributed within Dearborn and neighboring counties since 1996. Revenues from the best- performing casino in the state, the Argosy Casino on the Ohio River, accounted for $151.9 million in state taxes in 2005.
